In 2017, the Academy earned the AdvancED STEM certification. AdVancEd is now Cognia, and in April of 2022, the program was recertified as a STEM program through Cognia. As part of the STEM Recertification Review, the school had to submit an application showing that it meets Cognia’s STEM Performance Standards. Feedback gained through stakeholder interviews was considered with other evidence and data to support the STEM Recertification process findings.
“The school is commended for its work on creating a signature STEM school in Kennesaw, Georgia. Cognia and the Lead Evaluator express gratitude to the school’s leaders for the commitment to excellence through the STEM Recertification process. This certification is guided by Cognia’s STEM mission to provide a consistent, internationally applicable definition for quality STEM programs and build a network of STEM best practices to support the initiative. By participating in the STEM Recertification process, quality STEM programs like Kennesaw Mountain High School’s Academy of Mathematics, Science, and Technology add to the knowledge base available to practitioners, schools, and communities regarding “what works” in STEM education.
The school demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement, and Cognia is hopeful that the outcomes and suggestions from the STEM Recertification process will help inform and guide the school’s improvement journey’s next steps.”
