Summer Earth Studies - Information
THE NEXT GREAT ADVENTURE !

SUMMER EARTH STUDIES

Bright and early on an early June morning, 18 fortunate students and 5 teachers / chaperones will be leaving from the Atlanta airport on a flight to Salt Lake City, Utah. They will all load into 4 SUV's to begin an exciting, once-in-a-lifetime exploration of the American West. For 21 days, they will travel and hike through spectacular mountains, cross and kayak cold rushing rivers, view abundant wildlife, climb rugged rock outcrops, and get to know new people and students from other schools. While all of this is happening, students and teachers will be studying the Earth as their classroom. For their efforts, they will earn honors level science credit. No textbooks will be needed for this course! Can you imagine what colleges will think of a student who has this challenging, experiential science course on their transcript! This course is for qualified rising 11th and 12th grade students with at least a solid 'B' average in Science. The cost of the course depends on our group success in finding sponsorship. Last year's course cost $1700, not including airfare and most meals. If this course sounds fun and exciting, I guarantee it is! The 70 Cobb County students who have taken it all agree. If you want to learn more about the course, go to Mr. Schafer's website, http://teacherweb.com/ga/kennesawmtnhs/schafer, and click on the link. Watch the 1 minute video, download an application, and come to the next orientation meeting shown in the bulletin.

If you think you might be interested, send me an email at my website, telling me your name, school, science grade, class level. I will put your name on an email distribution list. The course will fill up quickly. I hope to hear from you soon!
